REVIEW: MIMIC+Plus Rechargeable External Vibrator

or, How an Updated Vibrator Inspired Me to Try New Things

I’m a creature of habit. I find predictability makes me feel safe. I like schedules. I like hanging out with the same people, I like frequenting the same shops … you get the idea. So, when I find something I like, I rarely change. So, when Peepshow Toys asked me if I’d review a new clit vibe, I have to admit I was less than thrilled. I had a clit vibe that worked perfectly for me and I couldn’t imagine anything coming close (pun intended). But, the funny thing about clinging to habit and routine is it doesn’t leave much room for exploring and discovering new favorites. Enter the new and improved Mimic+Plus from Clandestine devices and color me pleasantly surprised.

I had heard not so favorable things about the first iteration of this manta ray shaped vibe so I didn’t have high hopes. When I opened the box and took it out, I found it was elegantly shaped, with a pointed tip and a flared fin on either side of a hump made to fit in the palm of your hand. It wasn’t too heavy or too light, it was velvety smooth silicone ... it actually felt quite luxurious. The base is an oval shape that can support the toy on a flat surface and lights up to indicate charging functions and status. Another trait I appreciated is that it comes in grey which, in a sea of pink, purple and blue vibes that companies seem to love, was a welcome reprieve. Ok, now I was actually intrigued. I went straight to “work.”

The first thing I noticed is that the motor is rumbly and strong, something other reviews claimed needed improvement in the first iteration.

The controls were seemingly well placed on the underside of the Mimic+Plus and consisted of a round depression with raised plus and minus signs ( + O - ) to control intensity and patterns, on each side. I placed my hand on top of the vibe, middle finger on the hump, and the index and ring finger over each fin. My thumb was placed underneath the vibe sitting comfortably in the bottom groove of the hump with the controls nearby below my thumb and above the base. The apex was curved up giving me a choice whether I wanted the pointed or rounded end of the tip directly on my clit (or both at different times) when I masturbate. I also loved how the “wings” vibrated against my vulva when I wanted it to, depending on how I held the device. Despite the Mimic+Plus looking like a straightforward but unusually shaped clit vibe, it’s actually more than that - it's quite versatile. Flip it over and use the underside to have a whole new configuration to play with. Use one of the wings, or one of the many curves on the toy and you have a different surface, pliability and potentially, sensation to experiment with. Hell, you could even use the base if it floats your boat. I tried as many angles as I could and had a very satisfying week. It definitely gave my usual toy a run for its money orgasm and reliability-wise. In fact, it’s still in my nightstand instead of being put away in my closet toy organizer. That’s saying something.

So what's the bad news? Nothing too serious. Every vibe, no matter how much you like it, can be improved upon and the Mimic+Plus is no exception. For one, I found it loud. This is not the toy to use surreptitiously at your parent's house. Also, while I think the controls are really the only place it makes sense to put them, they are a little challenging to maneuver to while in use and you need to apply a lot of pressure in order to use them. In addition, I know magnetic charging is all the rage nowadays but, I would’ve preferred a good old fashioned USB port on the bottom. The magnets aren’t the strongest and frustratingly the softest nudge separates the charger from the toy. Also, patterns. I hate patterns and I wish I didn’t have to cycle through them all to get back to a steady vibration. But, this is a pervasive problem industry wide so I really can’t fault Clandestine Devices for leaving it that way. All in all, the positives exceed the negatives in a big way and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for folks who like clit, mons and vulva stimulation.

I really liked the Mimic+Plus! It gave me more than satisfying orgasms that kept me reaching for it over my standby, again and again.  It just goes to show me, if I don’t step out of my comfort zone now and again, I'll miss out on new opportunities to discover new favorites. Hmmm, maybe tonight I'll be inspired to try sleeping on the other side of the bed.

I received the Mimic+Pus Vibrator from Peepshow Toys in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions are 100 my own and I stand by each and every one.
